Is the essay limited only to a physical prison or is there room for interpretation? I lived in china for a year and working with street children. Majority of our kids came from child slavery in which they were forced to work for "bosses" who would make them beg all day and night and then force them to hand over all the money, giving the children nothing in return for their labor. The children were of course abused and completely taken advantage of. I would absolutely consider this a prison…

Hi Jonathan, While this seems like an interesting idea, you are required to write about one of the topics on the site. Most of these have more to do with literal imprisonment. See topics here: Essay Topics

hello lauren, thank you for the link. i have one more question though. what qualifies someone as a Hero of Compassion? the woman who began this mighty work in china comes to mind but i just need to know if writing about her and her work would qualify under the heroes of compassion topic. thank you.

Hi Jonathan, That is a good question. I think that child slavery would be a great topic for future years, but this year the topic is focused more on literal imprisonment. Perhaps you can find a story about children in actual physical prisons in China? Thanks. Lauren
